Welcome back to The Lift Up - your daily newsletter on affirmations for melanated queens and they fams.

It's your girl, coming at you with some real talk about burnout and finding that sweet balance in life.

Today, we're diving into how affirmations helped me go from burnt out to balanced.

Let's get into it!

Three years ago, I was a hot mess, y'all.

Years of inactivity and eating all the wrong foods had finally caught up with me.

I had so many physical problems, I was downright miserable.

I tried exercising about seven times before (yesssss I counted😩), but they all fizzled out.

Maybe I hadn’t quite hit rock bottom yet.

But that came when I took a big step over a mud puddle while walking my kids.

Landed wrong and bulged a disc in my lower back.

To top it off, when I went (crawled) to the doctor and got an mri that confirmed the bulged disc, they said I also had Flatback syndrome from slouching and cuddling my babies while an injury was healing in my lower back. So it like, healed in a slouchy, tail-tucked-under position.

Flatback syndrome, y’all!

I lost the curve in the base of my spine.

I was like, “SAY WHAT?!”

Me to the Dr

I mean, I noticed my booty went from phat to flat, but I didn’t know it was like that!

My motivation to feel healthy again was HUGE, hehe pun intended.

Way bigger than it had ever been.

So, I went all in, y’all.

Full court press to find an exercise practice and start making healthier choices in the kitchen.

I signed up for an online class about anti-inflammatory eating and started using an exercise app at the gym.

That was my routine.

I had a goal weight, but shoot, I guess I was being easy on myself because I shot past that number and kept dropping weight.

That was such a fun time.

this how I felt about my routine

I had a routine down and I felt unstoppable!

Then, the routine got a lil'...old.

This was when I needed help to make this more than a diet and then gain-the-weight-back-+10lbs kind of thing.
